Fillings are a quick and inexpensive procedure. If you’re experiencing tooth pain or think you have a cavity, we can help. And you’ll be back to feeling and looking great the same day!
When a dentist gives you a filling, he or she first removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cleaned-out cavity with a filling material. Depending on your dentist’s recommendation, the material will most often be composite (plastic) or amalgam (silver).
The average lifespan of fillings is 12.8 years for amalgams and 7.8 years for composites.
A tooth that has just had a filling placed will be more sensitive to hot foods and cold foods, air temperature, and the pressure of biting. This type of tooth pain after filling a cavity should resolve within a few days. If not, contact your dentist.
Most filling treatments will be $50 to $150 for a single, silver amalgam filling or $90 to $250 for a single, tooth-colored composite filling.
