Crowns and bridges are placed over damaged or missing teeth to improve the appearance, shape or alignment of your smile. Crowns are tooth-shaped "caps" made of porcelain or ceramic that cover the tooth in need of repair. Bridges are used to replace missing teeth by anchoring caps to surrounding teeth.

Dental crowns usually start around $600 per tooth depending on your dental needs and insurance coverage. The exact cost of a dental crown is also affected by the type of crown and material that is used.
In many cases, you may need the strength crowns provide. Premolars and molars that are at low risk of fracture may also be suitable for filling-only restorations after root canals. Front teeth may not need a crown for strength, but you might still prefer the improved appearance a crown offers.
Before your procedure, you'll receive an injection in your gums of lidocaine or another local anesthetic. After the procedure is over and the anesthesia has worn off, you may feel some sensitivity with the temporary crown or some soreness in the gums around the tooth. The pain is very minimal though and shouldn't last long.
Generally, dental crowns last between 5 and 15 years. We've seen some crowns last even longer, up to 25 or 30 years. Because crowns should last at least 5 years, most insurance companies will pay if the crown needs to be replaced anytime after those first five years.
